USING ANIMAL THERAPY TO IMPROVE MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT

Picture
Gill is our Physiotherpist who has worked 'hands on' rehabilitating people of all different ages, abilities, and issues for nearly 15 years. Qualifying from Manchester Met Uni, she developed her skills as an MSK Physiotherapist, with special interests of Stroke Rehabilitation following the Bobath approach. She combines this with the use of animals, specifically alpacas, to encourage the patient to relax and engage with the animals, facilitating their treatment whilst making it enjoyable. She also loves to work alongside children, having 2 little girls of her own (aged 3 and 5!) there are no better tutors than them to make your child feel at ease during their therapy session.

Led by a fully insured Chartered Physiotherapist (HCPC Registered), we are running one to one and small group sessions for Adults with different types of brain injuries.

Some examples of what we can treat combining the Alpacas, Ponies, and Pigyme Goats are:
  • Hypoxic Brain Injury
  • Dementia / Alzheimers
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Ataxia (loss of body control and movements)
  • Spasticity

We also have a keen interest in improving mental health, and now work alongside local mental health organisations and individuals to use Animal Therapy to boost morale of those around us who are struggling with certain aspects of depression.  We are proud to link with JOURNEYMEN  for individual and group therapy sessions(please follow the tab at the top for more info!) and also Nikki from Headstart Therapy for Solution Focused Therapy

Therapy is not just adults, but children also.

Working closely with a Psychologist, we can lead 1-1 sessions in an informal environment...while walking an Alpaca!

If you are a company and would like to work with us in the future, please do not hesitate to get in touch via office@outreachphysio.co.uk today to see how we can work with you.

Using The Principle of marginal gains

USING ANIMALS TO HELP IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH

We are lucky to have Nikki working with us who provides a wealth of experience in the mental health sector. She specialises in Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and is pioneering in this subject particularly, with a strong successful caseload of clients who are able to testify to the therapy she provides. In particular. she often refers to the below in her methods to help people get back on their feet:

What is the principle of marginal gains?

At British Cycling, Brailsford was noted for his innovative concept of 'marginal gains': The whole principle came from the idea that if you broke down everything you could think of that goes into riding a bike, and then improved it by 1%, you will get a significant increase when you put them all together.

Effectively, making small changes and small steps in the right direction will all build up to make a big difference later on - you just have to take that first step and ask for help!

Prices start at £70 per hour for counselling services, with a free initial consultation.
